M.I.A is back in the Hype Machine’s most blogged artists charts on Tuesday June 18, causing a stir with her latest single “Bring The Noize.”
The British/Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A, who dropped her debut album “Arular” back in 2005, is once again causing a buzz on indie blogs with the release of her latest single “Bring The Noize, produced by Paris-based house DJ/producer Surkin and British artist Switch, who has also worked with Major Lazer.
“Bring The Noize,” which will feature on M.I.A’s forthcoming album, “Matangi,” has been well recieved across the music blogs with Ear Milk writing,

“A fast up-tempo beat, accompanied with hyper-chopped and screwed vocals lend this track [being] a regular in summer nights playlists everywhere,” while Pigeons and Planes wrote “it sounds like something between a revolution and a party.”

Listen to M.I.A. New Single ‘Bring the Noize’

M.I.A. debuted her newest track on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 program on Monday. “Bring the Noize” is fittingly loud and urgent, paying tribute to its forbearers in Public Enemy, but also seating the sound smack-dab in the middle of the era of digital overload. It opens in a hail of chopped up vocals — Maya imploring “free dem” — then gives way to pounding drums. There are asides for some TNGHT-style crunch and some unexpected songbirding, but mostly it’s heavy and wild.

“It was written in lots of different circumstances, but I guess it’s coming out at a time where I think in America it’s kinda cool to hear something like this,” M.I.A. told Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. “It’s in keeping with what I released before, so I’m gonna gradually ease people into the new sound as the album goes on.”

Her fourth album Matangi is still awaiting a release date. The video for ‘Bring the Noize’ will premiere June 21st on Noisey.com

“I’ve given up at this point,” she said. “I was literally just kinda gonna start making records and putting them out from the bedroom straight on the Internet. This is my last stab at it.”

M.I.A. Links with Hit-Boy for New Album

Hit-Boy has worked with everyone from Jay-Z and Kanye West to Britney Spears and Rihanna. Now the Grammy-winning producer is teaming up with M.I.A. for her new album.

During Sunday’s Grammys, the “Ni**as in Paris” hitmaker revealed that he has recorded seven songs with M.I.A. for her fourth album Matangi. “We just locked in the studio and just vibed. We did seven incredible records,” he told CBS on the red carpet.

He shared what the experience was like. “She’s really creative. She’s doing exactly what comes to her. That’s why we were able to crank out that many songs. We just did it.”

In a previous interview with Australia’s Gold Coast Bulletin, M.I.A. said that she is eyeing an April 15 release date for Matangi, the follow-up to 2010’s Maya.

M.I.A chimes in on Australia’s immigration policy ahead of Summadayze appearance

SHE’S a Grammy and Oscar-nominated artist hailed as the future of music who counts Madonna, Jay Z and Julian Assange among her most ardent fans.

But if she had arrived in Australia, instead of Britain, as an 11-year-old refugee 24 years ago, we would have sent her back to Sri Lanka to face near-certain death.

Trailblazing British-born, Sri-Lankan-raised Tamil graphic artist, painter, director, designer, singer and rapper, philanthropist, activist and mother M.I.A., aka ‘Maya’ Mathangi Arulpragasam, lands in Perth this weekend to join The Chemical Brothers as one of the headline acts at the Summadayze music festival.

“I’d much rather take detention in Australia over detention in Sri Lanka because at least you’re not going to be killed,” the singer said when asked about Australia’s policy of offshore processing of asylum seekers.

“Letting people into Australia isn’t going to kill anybody.”

More than 700 Sri Lankan asylum seekers have been involuntarily sent home by the Australian Government since offshore processing came into effect in August last year.

“Those people are not going back to a nice life. They’re going to get tortured and they’re going to basically live like prisoners and it’s ridiculous,” M.I.A. said.

M.I.A. Prepares ‘Matangi’ for April

After a few delays, M.I.A. is set to make her return to music this spring with her fourth album Matangi. While known for controversy, the new material is said to have a different tone.

“It’s due in April, which is the Tamil new year—April 15th—and I’m still working on it,” Maya told the Gold Coast Bulletin during her trip to Australia.

Originally due last year, the project was delayed by her label Interscope Records. “At the moment, I’ve been told it’s too positive. So we’re having a bit of an issue at the label,” she said. “They’re like, ‘You need to like darken it up a bit.’ I don’t know what it is but as soon as I work that out.’”

Interscope was surprised by the overly positive tone on the follow-up to 2010′s Maya. “We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff,” said M.I.A. as she described her label’s reaction.
